Activities of the department during 2014-15

Awareness Programme
	The department organised an Awareness Programme, in collaboration with the International and Inter University Centre For Natural Resources Management (IIUCNRM), University of Kerala, on 27th February 2015 at the college seminar hall. The focal theme of the awareness programme was ‘Wetlands’. There were three presentations: Wetlands: Functions, significance and problems Wetland fauna and flora: Ecology and its importance Applications of remote sensing in wetland management
Invited lecture
	Dr .E. Shaji, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology, University of Kerala delivered a lecture on Groundwater investigation on 6th March 2015.
Spectrum 2015
	The theme of Spectrum-2015 seminar series was Groundwater Management. Sri.Babu Joseph, Director, Kerala state Ground Water Department delivered a talk on the topic “Groundwater management issues in Kerala” on 9th March 2015. There were five presentations by students of the department. Ground water management: Varun Stratigraphy of Thiruvallom section: Amal Chandran Ground water quality of Kadakkavoor and Chirayinkil panchayats : Bhajan Conservation of Western Ghats: Anusree Solid waste management: Gopika
Exihibition - La Tierra 2014:
	As part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the college the department organised an exhibition on earth sciences - La Tierra 2014 on 5th November 2014 in the geology laboratory followed by a short film show on Earth Sciences in the seminar hall. The viewership was more than thousand including students and teachers of the neighbouring schools. The show turned out to be a grand success.

Activities of the department during 2013-14

	Class-wise PTA meetings were conducted in all semesters and parents attended the meeting. Progress achieved by the students and their weak areas were discussed.
	Department Level Monitoring Committee Meetings for the FDP students were also conducted during this period to discuss the academic matters. The committee could effectively do the online enrollment and semester registration of the students. The committee could do the internal examinations and prepare the CE sheets in time. Committee analysed the semester results also during meetings.
	The Faculty also participated in the University Examinations as Chairman/ Chief Examiner/ Additional Examiner.
Seminar Organized by the Department
	As part of Spectrum 2014, Sri M.P. Muraleedharan, Dy Director General Geological Survey of India, delivered a lecture on the field aspects of geology on 21 March 2014.
	An invited Lecture on ‘Geo Technical Engineering’ by Dr. Sajinkumar K.S. Assistant Professor, Department of Geology, Kariavattom was organized in January 2014. He discussed the Engineering and Geological Aspects of Tunnels.
Extension programme
	The Department actively participated in the Annual Science Exhibition of Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School Thiruvallam during October 2013. The department contributed fossils, rocks and minerals for display at the exhibition which was highly appreciated by the organizers.
