Achievements during 2015-16

The first alumini meeting of Chemistry Department was held on 28/06/2015 at 10.30 am in Seminar hall.  The Head of the Department of Chemistry,   Dr.K.P.Jayasree presided over the function.  Forty former students participated in the function
The Department of Chemistry organized a seminar on  3rd August, 2015.  Dr.Devdas T Mahajan deliverd a talk on “The safety methods in Chemistry Labs”.  Dr. Vijay H Masanddeliverd a talk on “Medicinal Chemistry in Computer aided drug design”.  The meeting was attended by  UG& PG students.  The talk was conducted as part of a faculty exchange programme.  The speaker gave a valuable output regarding the applications of softwares in drug design to the faculty and the research scholar.  Earlier Dr. I.G. Shibi, Associate Professor of the Department had visited their institution VidyaBharathiMahavidyala at Amravathi, Maharashtra as part of the faculty exchange programme and gave training to the faculty of the institution.    
Magazine
The department released amagazine”GoldenSpankles” on 18/12/2014, the department newsletter “CheMAG”,which was special  issue during the international year of crystallography. Dr.S.Suma was the editor of the issue.
Ozone Day-2015
Ozone Day was celebrated on 16 thSeptember 2015 under the auspices of the Chemistry Department in collaboration with STEC.Dr M.S VasanthaKumar,HOD ,Department of Chemistry,SNCollege,Kollam delivered a speech on the importance of protecting the Ozone layer.This was followed by a documentary on the same .Essay writing competition ,poster presentation and quiz competitions were conducted and the winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates.

Invited Talk in Seminars/ Conferences
Shibi IG was a Special Invitee Resource Person in Team India 2015 to propagate Microscale experiments in chemistry at Indian Science Congress held at Bombay from 03-01-2015 to 07-01-2015.
Shibi I.G. delivered an invited talk on “Chemicals – Its Uses and abuses” at GS Tompe Arts, Commerce & Science College, Chandur Bazar, Amravati, Maharashtra. On 22nd January 2015.
Delivered a talk on “Micro Scale methods of Chemical Analysis” and conducted a Lab Training Workshop for College Teachers from University of Calicut at the Department of Chemistry, S. N. College Nattika on July 6th 2015.

Anish S of I DC received an award from NSS unit of our college for contributing more than 22 books to “Pusthakathottil” Programme.
BhevekBabu, Govind.G&Vineeth B of I DC had participated in the intercollegiate Badminton Championship held at CET, Trivandrum.
The students of the department were the overall winners of Christmas Eve celebrations.
The department won the Ajay Memorial Trophy of the Interdepartmental Cricket tournament and became runner-up in Sports.
The department secured 3rd position in overall performance of college union activities.

Chemistry dissertation entitled "Optimization of Antimalarial Activity of 4-Aminoquinoline derivatives: QSAR, GUSAR, and CoMFA analyses" under the guidance of the PI, Dr.I.G. Shibi by the CSIR OSDD RESEARCH UNIT of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
